Interview with Ambassador Tomita

The NC Japan Center was honored to recently have the opportunity to interview the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the United States, the Honorable Koji Tomita. Ambassador Tomita has an exemplary career of over 40 years at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which includes his posts as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Washington D.C., the Ambassador of Japan to Israel, and the Ambassador of Japan to South Korea, before assuming his current post. The Japan Center spoke with Ambassador Tomita about a number of topics, including the top priorities for the Embassy of Japan with the transition to a new US President and Prime Minister of Japan, the pandemic and the Tokyo Olympics, mainland China, the importance of interaction between American and Japanese institutes of higher learning, and Ambassador Tomita’s special connection to North Carolina.
