October 15, 2020: Dr. David Ambaras (NC State Dept. of History)

The NCJC was honored to have the opportunity to interview Dr. David Ambaras, Professor of History at NC State. David’s latest book, “Imperial Underworlds: Intimate Encounters at the Borders of Empire,” is the result of countless hours of research into the fascinating interactions (societal, mercantile, governmental, and so on) between Japan and China from the 1860s to the 1930s. We discuss this book and the ways these (often transgressive) interactions formed the dynamic between these countries that can still be felt today.
